Algoflon® D Aqueous Dispersions

The main processing techniques for Algoflon® D dispersion are impregnation and coating. Impregnation is currently carried out onto glass fabrics and fibers while coatings are mainly applied to metallic substrates.

Moreover, some Algoflon® D dispersions have been especially designed for particular applications including:

  • Additives for plastics (i.e., as anti-dripping agent in flame retardant formulations)
  • Grades for co-coagulation with pigments and fillers (i.e., for bearing applications)

Algoflon® D dispersions show:

  • Virtual immunity to chemical attack over a wide temperature range
  • Very low coefficient of friction
  • Exceptional release and water repellant properties

Consequently, all Algoflon® D dispersions offer to the various substrates the following enhanced properties:

  • Outstanding chemical inertness
  • Excellent corrosion resistance
  • Exceptional heat resistance
  • Optimum dielectric and insulating properties
  • Extremely low coefficient of friction
  • Self-lubricating
  • Self-extinguishing
  • Outstanding anti-stick and release properties
  • Excellent weathering and ageing characteristics

Markets and Applications

Typical industries served by Algoflon® D dispersions are:

  • Architecture-roofing: The high weatherability and anti-stain properties of Algoflon® D dispersions play a key role in this application. These dispersions are used to impregnate glass or plastic fabrics for producing flexible structures for the roofing of wide areas, such as sport stadiums or tent structures.
  • Food Processing: Algoflon® D dispersion for impregnation are currently used in the manufacture of conveyor belts for the food industry, while Algoflon® D dispersion for coatings are successfuly utilized in formulations for cookware coatings.
  • Electrical, Electronics & Semicon: The electrical properties of PTFE are highly appreciated in these industries. Algoflon® D dispersions are used to impregnate glass fiber fabrics for the production of printed circuit boards. They are also utilized to produce thin and flexible films (e.g., via cast film technology) with high dielectric strength, low dissipation factor, and non-flammability for coils and phase insulation on motors, transformers, relays, and switches.
  • Filtration: Algoflon® D dispersions are currently utilized for the impregnation of fabrics (both woven and non-woven) and fibers for filtration, thanks to their exceptional general properties and in particular their chemical resistance and water repellency.
