Hyflon® PFA resins are semi-crystalline fully-fluorinated melt processable fluoropolymers which offer the highest temperature rating and broadest chemical resistance of all melt processable fluoropolymers. Thanks to this, Hyflon® PFA is used for very high temperature/harsh environment resistant applications.
Several Hyflon® PFA families are available:
Hyflon® PFA P and M: for most high performance applications
The P series offers:
Higher melting point (309 - 312° C)
The M series offers:
Intrinsic processing stability
Improved surface smoothness
Remarkably higher transmittance values
Hyflon® PFA H: for high purity applications
All Hyflon® products are classified in accordance with ASTM D-3307.
Markets and Applications
Chemical process industry: Hyflon® PFA is used extensively due to its virtually universal chemical resistance even at high temperatures. Specific applications include protective linings for pumps, valves, pipes, scrubbing towers, reactors, and heat exchangers. Hyflon® is used in the chemical process industry for tower packing, free standing piping systems and in heat exchanger tubing.
Wire & cable: Hyflon® is used in advanced electronics such as keypads and LED displays in tighter spaces requiring the use of wire & cable materials ever more reliable and safe due to its properties:
Excellent mechanical properties at high temperatures in wire & cable insulation, heat tracing wiring, oil well logging wires, sensor wires and avionics.
High reliability
Long-term ageing resistance
Semicon: Hyflon® PFA H resins are used for tubing, fittings, and for fabric backed sheets in applications such as tank and vessel linings. PFA resins offer an advantage over other plastics in that they do not contain additives that could eventually leach out during service and damage circuits in state-of-the-art electronics. Moreover, they are not subject to chemical attack and will not demonstrate particle generation over time.
The information here indicated is intended as general, though exceptions exist in certain environments and with particular chemical agents used.
