Halar® ECTFE, a copolymer of ethylene and chlorotrifluoroethylene, is a partially fluorinated semi-crystalline polymer offering a unique combination of properties for high demanding applications.
It offers peculiar advantages such as:
Particularly smooth surface
Excellent corrosion and weather resistance
Outstanding fire safe properties
One of the other principal advantages of Halar® ECTFE is the ease with which it can be processed. Halar® fluorocarbon resin is a true thermoplastic that can be handled by conventional techniques of extrusion as well as by blow, compression, injection, roto and transfer molding. Powder coating methods are also applicable. Halar® resin is available in various melt viscosities to suit virtually every processing technique.
The information here indicated is intended as general, though expections exist in certain environments and with particular chemical agents used.
Markets and Applications
Films: Halar® ECTFE films are the best option for front sheets used in photovoltaic (PV) modules. The Halar® ECTFE film produced for photovoltaic applications is UV stable and optically clear with more than 90% transmission of light in the visible spectrum. Films made of Halar® ECTFE exhibit nearly an order of magniture lower permeation rate than ETFE. Photovoltaic modules made with Halar® ECTFE film are exceptionally durable and meet the toughest industry requirements in terms of lifetime and flexibility.
Pipes and piping systems: For those applications exceeding the capabilities of PVDF, Halar® ECTFE offers an excellent compromise between the chemical and thermal resistance which is typicaly of totally fluorinated polymers. These characteristics have made Halar® ECTFE a material of choice for corrosion protection in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and microelectronics industries.
Wire & cable insulation: The excellent processability, together with its electrical properties and low smoke properties make Halar® ECTFE an ideal solution for wire and cable insulation, both in the plenum market and in other demanding industries (oil & gas, heating cables, etc.).
Semicon: The extensive use of Halar® ECTFE in the semicon industry is justified by its unique characteristics:
High purity
Very smooth surface
Fire safety
