Halar ECTFE is a partially fluorinated semi-crystalline polymer offering a unique combination of mechanical properties and thermal and chemical resistance with an outstanding ease of processability.
Halar ECTFE, a copolymer of ethylene and chlorotrifluoroethylene, can bring advantages to the end user when compared to other fluoropolymers. It is a very versatile polymer, available in all forms to meet processing needs. Halar ECTFE offers excellent resistance to abrasion, harsh chemicals, and permeation. For those applications exceeding the capabilities of PVDF, Halar ECTFE can be evaluated before resorting to a fully fluorinated polymer, offering a compromise between the mechanical properties of a partially fluorinated plastic like PVDF and the chemical and thermal resistance which is typical of totally fluorinated polymers.
These characteristics have made Halar ECTFE a material of choice for several applications in the field of corrosion protection in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and microelectronics industries. The excellent processability, together with its electrical properties, has allowed Halar ECTFE to become an ideal solution for wire and cable insulation.
Halar ECTFE is a high purity fluoropolymer with a very smooth surface, which accounts for its extensive use in the semiconductor industry. Halar ECTFE meets the demands for fire safe, non-fire propagating plastics. Halar ECTFE powder coatings offer ease of processing with the ability to be applied in higher thicknesses when required.
Since 1990 Halar ECTFE powder coatings have been used successfully for corrosion protection of exhaust duct systems that must meet the FM 4922 fire safety standard. In addition, Halar ECTFE plastic sheet is used to meet FM 4910 and UL 2360 standards for fabrication of fire safe clean room tools. Halar ECTFE powder coatings have replaced PVDF sheet linings in ultrapure water (UPW) systems.
