Fluoropolymers from Solvay Solexis have found wide acceptance for the purification of potable and industrial water. Solef® and Hylar® PVDF, Hyflon® PFA, and Halar® ECTFE offer excellent chemical resistance, thermal stability, and high purity. These thermoplastics may be processed by extrusion, rotomolding, rotolining, or as powder coatings to offer superior corrosion protection for water treatment equipment and components including:
Piping, fittings, tubing, valves
Pumps
Vessels and tanks
Membranes
Filters
Halar® ECTFE coatings are recommended for high purity fluid systems in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and other industries, particularly where the process surface must be smooth, pure (low extractables), and chemically resistant.
The extremely smooth and chemical resistant surface of Halar® prevents microbial growth. For this reason, Halar® powder coatings are not only used in the presence of extremely aggressive chemical environments, but also for ultra pure water (UPW) handling in pharmaceutical and semiconductor industries.
Compared to sheet lining, Halar® powder coatings offer a seamless lining. Powder coated surface smoothness is generally the same or better than a sheet and has no welds or seams. Halar® powder coating has been used in vessels of custom design and complicated geometry. Seamless Halar® powder coatings have replaced PVDF sheet lining in ultra pure water systems (i.e. filter housings, ion exchange beds, storage tanks).
