Fluorinated plastics (Halar® ECTFE, Solef® PVDF, Hylar® PVDF, Hyflon® PFA/MFA®, Algoflon® PTFE) are extruded or molded into pipes, valves, pumps and fittings for use in chemical process equipment when excellent temperature and chemical resistance are required. Small pieces can economically be made entirely of fluoropolymers. Extruded or molded components include tubes, pipes, hose, column packing, pumps, valves, fittings, gaskets, and expansion joints. Certain heat exchangers, used in very acidic media, have entire components made of MFA® or PFA.
Fomblin® PFPE fluids are used in transfer pumps for liquid oxygen and vacuum pumps for cylinder scavenging, compressors, and valve lubrication.
Algoflon® PTFE has outstanding chemical inertness in aggressive environments, excellent thermal resistance, and non-stick properties in a wide range of temperatures from cryogenic to 260°C. This makes Algoflon® PTFE the ideal material for many critical applications. Products that can be made of Algoflon® PTFE for this market are pump components, valves, seals, gaskets, packings, porous structures, expansion joints, pipe, and fittings.
Halar® ECTFE coatings are recommended for high purity fluid systems in the chemical industry, particularly where the process surface must be smooth, pure (low extractables), and chemically resistant. Halar® powder coatings are used in the presence of extremely aggressive chemical environments. Moreover, the extremely smooth and chemical resistant surface of Halar® prevents microbial growth.
Compared to sheet lining, Halar® rotolining and rotomolding offer a seamless lining. Powder coated surface smoothness is generally the same or better than a sheet and has no welds or seams. Halar® rotolining and rotomolding have been used in vessels of custom design and complicated geometry such as pumps and valves.
Hyflon MFA® powders for loose rotolining can be used to provide anti-corrosion protection for use in process equipment where good release properties and excellent temperature and chemical resistance are required.
